I’ve ranted and raved about Future in past posts, and how his consistency, I feel, has been hurting him. Mixtape after mixtape, song after song, it’s been too much Future lately. I’ve talked about how I just wish he’d take a step back and focus on his music more, then he’d sound even better. However, I guess Future really was able to blow my opinion out of the water because I’m super impressed with his latest album, “Evol.”
Dirty Sprite 2 was a good album, just good though. There were only a couple of songs that I truly enjoyed on DS2, and I felt there was a ton of improvement in store for Future. Everything since then has just been below his potential, and I was quickly losing interest in the rapper. His style wasn’t changing and lyrically, it felt like the same thing over and over again. With Evol, I feel like Future realized some of his issues and put in over time to address them. The whole album is pretty great, and I really feel bad saying that I didn’t really think it would a success.
Future’s style of rap is that of a new generation, which basically means that sometimes I have no idea what he’s talking about, but it sounds good. I’ve said before that I would rather listen to a well put together, lyrical heavy song than listen to music that’s just about how the beat sounds. Future is one of those rappers, and even in Evol he still possesses said style. However, even though I’m not fond of it, Future’s really done a great job of keeping me engaged while listening to this album. Even though, in my opinion, Future isn’t a lyrical genius, he is still able to grab me with lyrics that stick in my head. If you ask me, that’s a great skill to have as a rapper, especially if you may struggle lyrically. People often remember catchy, ear gripping lyrics, and Future has definitely packed this album with them.
I’m really enjoying Evol, it’s truly Future going back to the Future I used to know and love. Evol goes hard, like, really hard, and even though I have doubted him before, Future has truly proven himself. I’m going to keep listening to this album for a while now, and if you didn’t get the message from this review, I’d recommend you listen to the album as well.
